Scripture: Ps 87, 90, 136; 2 Kings 11:1-20a; 1 Corinthians 7:10-24; Matthew 6:19-24
Scripture standout: Matthew 6: "19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
His Deed/The Day: Sometimes, others lose out at the cost of deeding. I was supposed to go to the beach this afternoon to toast the birthday of one of my best friends. But after taking the kids to the Heart Walk and deeding them by allowing them to spend the afternoon with friends — and catching up with Ashraf today while his host family was out of town — and trying to get off deadline...I couldn't find one way to make it work. Should I have said no, no, no to everybody else? Is there a deeding triage system? I wish!
What happens when you deliberately tweak your conscience to be more aware of meeting others' needs? Every day? And if it happens to be Lent...for 40 days? What does that look like? What deeds would transpire? What blessings come back? How do we listen for direction? Wake up each morning and decide to be intentional about bringing others better into focus with a little prayer, silence and scripture. Let the daily deeding commence! #DoingUntoOthers #OthersFirst #OneDeedADayGo
How to Do-Good
Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait
