Scripture: Yes.
Silence: Yes, while I was waking up...but felt more like sleep, so not sure how effective it was.
The Day/The Deed:
Oh my, today started out so utterly cruddy I thought for sure there was no hope for me and deeding today. And then — I went to Walgreens. That's where, for the second time this week, an opportunity to be a blessing made itself really, really obvious and exciting. Talk about Walgreens Rewards...I love Walgreens now, I'm a fan!
I was paying for my prescription at the pharmacy and this rude older lady shoves her shopping cart within inches of my backside. She yells at the pharmacist who is helping me and barks, "can you call somebody to get this down for me?" My first thought was, "raawwww-uuude! Gah! Can't she wait two seconds?" But very quickly, Bump-My-Backside's pushy need felt more like a cue than an outrage. I offered my assistance. The Walgreens brand eye wash on the top shelf was just within my reach. And even though she didn't say thank you, it felt right to help BMB get what she needed.
Energized, I went to the register and had a long, meaningful conversation with the checkout gal I see every time I go into Walgreen's. Her name's Sulema, she's from Cuba, she's been here for 10 years and she's really happy she lives in the U.S. I listened for a good five minutes while she shared some of her struggles as an immigrant and her dreams of working in computer programming one day. That felt good, too — maybe listening to someone's story is also a blessing? If it is, certainly focusing on the words of others with more intent is an easy "deed" to accomplish each day?
Words of encouragement/advice:
Friend-Who-I'd-Like-to-Know better sent me this after reading my morning post. It came at such a good time. In fact, it came just before my trip to Walgreens — coincidence... or not?
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Final thoughts;
I think I like it when opportunities for doing good are obvious and in my face. But so far, most of them are not. Sigh.
