How to Do-Good

Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait

Day 11 in Review

Prayer: Yes, while tossing all night on a couch
Scripture: Yes
Silence: Yes, flashes of it

The Day/The Deed:

WIthout going into too much detail, a real miracle happened today! I have written off Saturday's deed as investing time, energy and thought into the future of my friend's foundation. We all woke up and got right to work with a brainstorming session, visioning, working through a mission statement and identifying next steps.

One of the big next steps is to improve our foundation website. Our greatest need? Pictures. We wanted lots of  pictures of our friend doing what she did best — helping people in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, there were few decent photos to use — and many of them were hard copies, which diminishes the quality and usability. We all wanted to sigh.

But before even our shoulders could drop, my friend's mother produced a CD of photos she had discovered in her daughter's things. Maybe this would yield something usable, she said. She'd not had the time or strength to go through it herself. Imagine our delight when we found the CD included 10 large files FULL of photos of our friend working in Afghanistan. There were gorgeous photos of her with Afghan school girls, photos of her handing out backpacks of supplies, photos of her loving her work and the people. It was more than we could have ever hoped to discover and then some! improving our foundation website as a better tool for learning about our friend and her life accomplishments. It was a gift for all of us!

Words of encouragement: This saying hangs in Second-Mother-to-Me's office, and I like it: "It is what it is, it becomes what you make it." Isn't that great? So true, I think.

Final thoughts: In that 5 love language study, or book, or whatever, I am definitely a gift person. Maybe a quality time person, too. But I really like gifts. And this weekend's gift was one of the best I've gotten in a while.
