How to Do-Good

Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait

Day 10

ScripturePs 95, 40, 54, 51; Deuteronomy 10:12-22; Hebrews 4:11-16; John 3:22-36

Scripture Standout: Deut 10: "12 And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?"

Morning thoughts: I'm totally reminded now of that funny "hairbrush" story! I am such a yes person, a direction-follower a gal who wants to keep people happy. I hate falling short! Yesterday, I tried to be obedient to the sobbing demands of my third-grader who was desperate to share a St. Paddy's day treat with her class — that morning, during carpool go-time, i.e. the worst possible time of the day. I promised to do something great, I told her, as we furiously peeled into school. Don't worry, I promised. I bought a box of green cupcakes and made it look like a leperauchn had dropped it off while they were in chapel. Another mother, I guess, beat me to the punch. When the class returned, they decided to eat her cupcakes instead — because they had cool plastic rings in them. Falling short, indeed. Figures.

I think that's been the biggest challenge of this experiment. I want a super-natural order to arrive each day. I want to go about my day business as usual and then have God pop his head back in to my world and wave a red flag in my face. In my dreams, he'll shout something like, "see that man over there? Wish him well at his doctor's appointment, and do it now!" Or, "See those cupcakes with the cheezy plastic rings on top! THOSE are the ones — yes, the expensive ones. Buy those and your daughter's rewards will be great." Unfortunately, the cues are much more subtle, gentle — sometimes hard to hear, see or feel when I'm not tuned in. Today want to hear an order and be obedient to it.
