How to Do-Good

Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait

Day 12 in Review

Prayer: Yes
Scripture: Yes
Silence: Yes

The Deed/The Day: Today was more of the same — wrapping up work and planning for my friend's foundation. I suppose the deed was still being present and as helpful as my abilities allowed. We were all on the same page most of the time, but this meeting did remind me that do-gooding can also occur during meeting like this. I think when you're open to others ideas, listening, processing what someone else is sharing and letting someone else be right or have the last word, you're being a servant of sorts. Group activities and brainstorming are definitely exercises in "it's not all about me." I'm not sure what a spiritually inspiring thought that is, but it occurred to me today.

Once again, the airport provided a rich selection of opportunities for do-gooding. I had a very tight connection at the Charlotte, N.C. airport. Several of us, including a very elderly woman, were running for our Jacksonville flight. The older woman ended up on the plane ahead of me. I helped her shove her big suitcase up into the overhead. TOTALLY low-hanging fruit. I also sat next to a family traveling home for a funeral. Although I much more prefer shutting down on planes and reading or tuning out, I was playful with their two-year-old son. I totally stepped out and expressed my condolences to the husband before deplaning. That is really out of my comfort zone — to verbally share sympathies with a stranger. The whole issue of being sad for someone who has lost a loved one is way uncomfortable for me — even though I've gone through it myself. This opportunity was a small break-through.

Words of Encouragement/Advice: None tonight!

Final thoughts:

I cannot underscore enough how RIPE the airport is for doing deeds.
