Scripture: Ps 18:1-20; Daniel 2:31-49; 1 John 2:18-29; Luke 3:1-14
Scripture standout: Luke 3: "10 “What should we do then?” the crowd asked.
11 John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”
Morning thoughts: Now these are some directions I can understand — straightforward, to the point. Yes, I have two shirts. Geez, I have like 200 shirts — maybe more if you count all my running shirts and the dwindling pile of T-shirts from various corporate functions. OK, share them with one who has none. Got it.
Food? Oh yes, I have food. My pantry is full of it — the freezer, ice box and cupboards, too. I just went to the store this week, I think there might even be some Star Crunch Bars and the always zesty and delicious Honey Mustard and Onion Snyders pretzels in there, too. I bet if we just ate out of what's in our freezer — and out of the deep freeze in the garage where all the venison lives — we could sustain ourselves happily for weeks. Yeah, we have food. Sounds like I could also make a little extra of whatever I'm cooking. Or plan a separate meal. OK, do the same as with the shirts. Share it. Got it.
What happens when you deliberately tweak your conscience to be more aware of meeting others' needs? Every day? And if it happens to be Lent...for 40 days? What does that look like? What deeds would transpire? What blessings come back? How do we listen for direction? Wake up each morning and decide to be intentional about bringing others better into focus with a little prayer, silence and scripture. Let the daily deeding commence! #DoingUntoOthers #OthersFirst #OneDeedADayGo
How to Do-Good
Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait
