How to Do-Good

Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait

Day 97

Scripture: Ps 78:1-72; 1 Samuel 1:21—2:11; 1 Acts 1:15-26; Luke 20:19-26

Scripture standout: Ps 78: "52 But he brought his people out like a flock;
   he led them like sheep through the wilderness.
53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;"

1 Samnuel 2: "“It is not by strength that one prevails; "

Morning thoughts: Reading Hannah's story this morning reminded me how ungrateful I was yesterday. Here's Hannah giving Samuel up because the Lord gave her what she asked for. Then there's me, who has everything she needs and even has prayers answered in an obvious way. Yesterday, a good friend got the "benign" diagnosis we'd all been praying for. And I forgot to be thankful. I mean really — how that have just slipped off my radar? I was happy and relieved to get the news, but not immediately thankful. That is just plum bad.

His Deed/The Day: It was a hot, smokey day today. It was so hot and ashy that I felt sick getting from my car to the supermarket. Same way going out. I went for an old standby — the returning the cart to the store deedio. Despite the heat, it felt cool to keep someone else from having to be out in the nastiness.

I also made it a point to be thankful on my run this morning. Very thankful.

Tonight was so much fun. The Afghan interpreters came over for supper tonight. We had a ball! We played the "gestures" game, where you go around the table and gesture something instead of speaking. AJ cooked, Ashraf cut carrots, Aria helped Ashraf cut carrots, Quodrat set the table and Edris tried his darndedst to accomplish a perfected performance of Fur Elise on the piano. It's so funny, Edris and Quodrat both are just dying to learn that piece!
