Scripture: Ps 20, 116, 117; Genesis 6:9-22; Hebrews 4:1-13; John 2:13-22
Scripture standout: Hebrews 4: "13 Nothing God created is hidden from him. His eyes see everything. He will hold us accountable for everything we do."
His Deed/The Day: A person who is close to me got a yucky diagnosis recently. Another test occurred yesterday with dismal results. I received a text sharing the news and I responded with the first thing that came to my mind: "Dang." Somewhere down my path, the scripture passage that says "mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice" (I'm probably butchering it, but you get the reference) has really stuck. When someone is sad, guess what a friend's response should be? To be sad with them! Happy about something? Well, good friends are happy right by your side. The pragmatic approaches and planning and questions — they come later. But in those really really blissful moments and those really, really painful periods, the best deed ever is a friend who shares in it.
What happens when you deliberately tweak your conscience to be more aware of meeting others' needs? Every day? And if it happens to be Lent...for 40 days? What does that look like? What deeds would transpire? What blessings come back? How do we listen for direction? Wake up each morning and decide to be intentional about bringing others better into focus with a little prayer, silence and scripture. Let the daily deeding commence! #DoingUntoOthers #OthersFirst #OneDeedADayGo
How to Do-Good
Quick How-To Guide: Start the day with a little silence, scripture (via Forward Day by Day, if you choose) and prayer. Then open your eyes and make it a practice to be hyper-aware of who and what's going on around you. Deploy that deed with confidence when God gives you his signature gentle nudge. This may feel awkward and unnatural. #NoWorries #GoWithIt #DeedWellDone #BlessingsEnsueJustWait
